Peter Force's art practice veers from large, energetic, almost abstract charcoal and soft pastel works to narrative art shows and short films.

His art appears to have been rendered in a frenzy. A St Vitus dance of charcoal or soft pastel on erased and torn paper. It is uncomplicated, immediate and urgent. The type of art that lies in wait on the white walls of lesser known galleries and then leaps out and assaults the viewer with energy and colour.

It is bold and unapologetic work that adheres to that post-impressionist theory of applying paint straight from the tube only in Peter's case, it's soft pastel, raw and uncorrupted.

Peter Force is also a storyteller.

His art shows have included written word, songs, a cast of characters and the odd history lesson. Peter's short film scripts have been funded by the New Zealand Film Commission and won local and international awards, including a prestigious crystal bear at Berlin Film Festival.

Peter Force currently lives in the Waitakere Ranges, Auckland, surrounded by native bush and birds.
